GMC Denali Road Bike Review

GMC Denali Road is a wonderful looking bike and since road bikes are pretty much exclusively distributed in bicycle shops, most people will think it cost a LOT far more than it really did. A friend asked if I spent “more than $1,000? on it. Wonderful gears, I hit 38.5mph on a downhill with some gear remaining, and managed 32.4mph on level ground with a tailwind (measured using handlebar mounted GPS receiver). I can cruise overall in the 16-20mph range for the first hour.
I get no problems with build quality. The welds look good, the bike seems solid, the seat tube fit fine. I was surprised how well the frame fits my 6’0? size.

My very first impression was that I found it awkward to have to reach down to use the brakes. I got used to that fast. My next impression was how effortless it was to go quickly on this bicycle. The 63cm, black and silver Denali, rides truly smooth. I will say that this bike is definitely great for the price. I am so pleased with the level of quality for fewer than two hundred bucks.

The wheels and tires are quite narrow and 28 inches. Combine that with the aluminum frame, shimano derailleur and it performs very nicely.

GMC Denali Road bicycle rides tight and looks definitely wonderful. I discovered a specialized bike that viewed fully used up that the seller wanted the price of three of the GMCs for. I decided that I could possibly get three new bicycles, back to back for the cost of one bicycle that I wouldn’t rely on to get me around the block. I bought the Denali.

The seat is comfortable for a road bike, and the Denali pedals very easily, making long trips a breeze. The kickstand is a welcomed addition (and easily-removed for those who balk at kickstands).

If you want a real bargain, get some equipment/experience and are willing to tinker, get the Denali. It’s a hoot to ride! The gear shifting seems to be great overall to me, and conveniently located on the handle bars. Due to the fact the bicycle is strong aluminum, it is fairly light and really durable. But a caveat emptor is that it is a little bit heavier but stronger than other standard (bianchi, trek, giant) commuter road bikes since those tend to possess a skinnier aluminum body while this one looks like to follow Ford Motor Company’s “built tough” motto. (Lighter frame materials would be titanium, carbon, and some kind of composite: carbon and titanium body bicycles WILL cost you over $1500 new, at minimum) Another aspect people will easily skip is that the forks, unlike the frame, is created of steel so they’re weightier than regular-but this is because while aluminum is lighter compared to steel, it is also stiffer which would create for a bone-jarring ride; the only real solution to this is to get 200-300$ all carbon.

Complete I am very pleased with the bicycle GMC Denali. You simply just can’t beat the price. The bike is lightweight, has extremely good gearing, and can be extremely fast. It goes much better than it stops. Replacing several key components will enhance the bike significantly. It is not ideal, but when you factor in the amount, it is a wonderful offer.
