Introducing the Lego City Airport
If sales of Lego City Airport are any indication, it looks like we could see a repeat of what happened last year. So many anxious moms and dads ended up buying Lego at prices way above the recommended retail price when the popular sets like this one sold out. Some sellers on EBay and similar sites made a lot of money selling the Lego City Police Station at 2 or 3 times the recommended price. Parents paid over the odds when they couldn’t face explaining that Santa had run out. If your kid wants the Airport set this christmas don’t risk falling into the same trap.
Lego is a fabulous toy for any child and it is natural to see why it remains on the best sellers list year after year. Electronic toys are great but often they do not inspire the same level of creativity as the Lego sets. Kids can spend hours making up the actual set i.e. in this case City Airport, and also playing with the pieces for years afterwards and coming up with their own inventions. Moms and Dads report kids watching their favorite TV shows and then using random pieces of Lego to build something they saw on TV.
Lego is also a great educational toy. It stimulates creativity and imagination and it also helps develop the fine motor skills necessary for children to be able to write properly at school as well as completing other day to day tasks. Playing with any Lego set is going to be more beneficial than sitting down to watch TV for hours on end.
Although Lego can be more costly than other similar building sets, the key to its success is that it lasts and can be passed down from one generation to the other. It was introduced in 1932 so you probably remember playing with it in some form yourself as a kid.
The Lego City Airport is one of the bigger Lego kits. It includes a jet plane, flight terminal with revolving doors, a baggage cart, control tower, some figures including the crew, a passenger and a service man. As with all Lego sets you can buy extra figures for it, or in this case a passenger plane and some runway. In fact you could build an entire Lego City if you wanted to.
Lego has a reputation for detail but this set really does take it to a new level. Most of the items you would expect to see in a real airport turn up in this set. There is a Soda machine, coffee mugs, security scanning area, computer behind the check in desk and so much more. The only real downside to this set is that there are not many figures included. You may want to buy some additional mini figures because, given the size of this set, five really isn’t sufficient.
